Current Event for the Week of Jan. 7th
In this article, Alfredo Simon of the Baltimore Orioles has allegedly shot two men, killing one of them. Simon shot and killed 25-year-old Michel Castillo and wounded his 17-year-old brother during a New Year's Eve party. No motive was clear for the shootings happening. This story has to deal with violence in sports and how what an athlete does off the field connects to their activity on the field. Earlier there was a report that Simon turned himself into the Dominican police and will face an involuntary manslaughter charge. It was also reported that the shootings were accidental. Simon was firing celebratory shots in the air. He could face up to two years in prison if found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. The future is uncertain for the Baltimore pitcher, but one thing is evident, he may never pitch in the big leagues again.
